Letter from the President of the Alumni Association

By Maroon & White | spring 2018

To the hundreds of students who graduated in May, welcome to the Saint Mary’s alumni family; it’s a global community of over 51,000 alumni.

As I write this, snow is still blanketing the grass in Halifax. Nevertheless, we trust the white stuff will be melted by summer. If you haven’t already, please register for the 42nd Annual SMU Alumni Golf Tournament. It’s taking place August 21 at Glen Arbour. Golfers will be supporting current Saint Mary’s learners as the tourney enables us to award 20 bursaries to deserving students.

Homecoming 2018 is happening October 10-14, and we’re looking forward to welcoming Huskies back to campus. Let’s try to make it the biggest gathering yet! If you’d like help arranging a reunion with your class, program, team, or society, let the Alumni Office know. In the meantime, keep an eye out for a full schedule of Homecoming events. We’ll be posting it on the Alumni website in the coming weeks.

I’d encourage anyone looking to join the Alumni Council to submit applications by August 10. It’s been a very rewarding experience for me to give back to the Saint Mary’s University community. Volunteering as an alumni leader on Council is just one way to stay in touch with friends, professors, and colleagues.

Lastly, I want to thank my executive (Past President, Mary-Evelyn Ternan; Vice-President, Scott McElman; and Secretary, Bafana Mashingaidze), members of our Alumni Council, and the staff in the Alumni Office for all of their hard work. It takes a team to ensure alumni stay meaningfully connected to their alma mater.

Sarah Ferguson, CMA BComm‘09
President, Saint Mary’s University Alumni Association
